It has long been a common belief in the feed industry that lipids are primarily used for energy. But in fact, lipid nutrition is no less important than protein. Many leading scientific researches and practices of calid in recent years have shown that improving animal lipid nutrition can significantly enhance livestock and poultry production performance, health, quality and flavor of livestock and poultry products.
On the afternoon of August 9, 2024, the 4th National Lipid Nutrition Forum was officially held at Langlitz Xishan Garden Hotel in Beijing, where a number of experts and scholars in the field of animal lipid nutrition, as well as the heads of feed industry enterprises and technologists gathered in Beijing to share with the online and offline audience the roles and values of functional fatty acids in the production of swine and poultry animals as well as the production of high-quality meat, eggs, and milk in the past few years, and to bring a technical feast on animal lipid nutrition.
The forum was synchronized to open online live broadcasting, which was relayed by many industry media such as Changing Feeding World, China Swine Industry, Feed Industry Information Network and Lipid Science and Application. The accumulated heat has exceeded 50,000, and the total number of viewers has exceeded 10,000 people.
At the opening of the forum, Li Defa, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of China Agricultural University, who is a titan of the industry, delivered a speech. He believed that hybrid lipids are better than single lipids in terms of energy and function, affirmed Calid’s past series of work in market education of the fed fatty acid precision balance industry, recognized Calid’s contribution to promoting the development of the fed fatty acid industry, and highly praised the Calid lipid production equipment visited in June this year. At the same time, Academician Li believed that the wooden table theory on fatty acid balance put forward by Calid’s chairman Wang Jihua would also set off a boom in the industry in the future.
At the 2024 Feed Industry Innovation Forum on the morning of the 8th, Academician Li Defa was invited by Calid to make a report on the theme of “Discussion on the Efficient and Synergistic Utilization of Nutrients in Swine Feed Grain”. Academician Li pointed out that food security is “the most important thing in the country”, the main pressure of food security is in feed grain, and the important potential of saving food is also in feed grain. Improving the utilization efficiency of carbon and nitrogen nutrients is the key to reduce the waste of feed grain, and the synergistic utilization of carbon and nitrogen can promote the efficient transformation of nutrients. He shared the team’s latest research on the new model of innovative nutrient balancing, intelligent targeted delivery of carbon and nitrogen nutrients, and technological innovation of efficient synergistic utilization of nutrients in porcine feed rations. He also highlighted the ideal fatty acid model of Calid, shared Calid’s synthetic biotechnology, fermentation technology, and other special lipid production processes, and expressed his hope that he could work together with Calid in order to lead the precise fatty acid balancing industry in the next decade of Ideal Fatty Acid Model.
In the afternoon of 9th, Wang Lu, Associate Professor of China Agricultural University, made a presentation with the theme of “Redefinition of Fat Energy and Requirement”. In the context of feed grain security, Wang Lu believes that improving the efficiency of feed nutrient utilization is an important initiative to deal with the issue of feed grain security in China, and the livestock and poultry precision formulation technology is a key path to realize the improvement of feed utilization efficiency. Currently, there is a lack of a complete fatty acid nutritional evaluation system in the swine nutritional requirement database at home and abroad, and there is a lack of the concept of digestible fatty acids in feed formulation design. Based on this, she shared her team’s latest research on fat content determination, fat energy evaluation, fat digestibility evaluation and fatty acid requirement in recent years.
Yan Chunsheng, vice chairman of Calid Science Association, gave a key note speech on “Nutritional Countermeasures for Fatty Acid Balance to Enhance the Productivity of Sows and Piglets”. Starting from PSY, the core indicator of sows, he analyzed that 40% of dry matter of pig breast milk is fat, and the role of omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA and ARA, on reproductive cells, and introduced the roles of various functional fatty acids in improving the reproductive performance of sows and other aspects. In addition, he shared a number of trials conducted by Calid in cooperation with Prof. Liu Yulan of Wuhan Light Industry University. One of the test data was particularly noteworthy: when 2% of Calid’ Liduoneng® Total Balanced Oil was added to the diet, piglet weaning litter weight gain was 10 kg higher in the former compared to the latter group with 2% soybean oil. The combined results show that Liduoneng® can improve sow reproductive performance, promote intestinal development of lactating piglets, improve their growth performance; promote piglet growth, stimulate intestinal cell proliferation and inhibit intestinal cell apoptosis.
Wang Xin, technical head of Calid Laying Hens, gave a lecture on “Lipid Substitution Program and Application Value in Laying Hens’ Diets”. At present, the overall level of China’s laying hens is relatively low, there are problems such as high mortality, poor egg quality and so on. To solve these problems, we need to start from the intestinal health of laying hens and dietary nutrition. Fatty acid balancing is a solution for both precision nutrition and intestinal health. According to the latest research, the addition of 1% Liduoneng® Balanced Milk (a full replacement of soybean oil) to diets can effectively reduce laying dead and egg ratios, increase egg production rates and improve egg quality. Under the background of anti-antibiotics and anti-antibiotics reduction, the development of swine industry is facing many problems such as disease prevention and control. She pointed out that in this context, functional fatty acids can improve herd health and breeding efficiency by maintaining intestinal health, improving immunity, antibacterial and antiviral functions. At the same time, she also shared the application mechanism of functional fatty acids and the application effect of some fatty acid balancing solutions. Tong Xiaofeng, Head of Poultry Technology of Calid, made a presentation with the theme of “Functional Fatty Acids: Dual Catalysts for Health and Efficiency in Poultry Farming”. He proposed that, after the epidemic, the meat poultry industry has entered the micro-profit era, and cost reduction and efficiency has become the industry trend. The core of cost reduction and efficiency in meat and poultry industry is to improve feed efficiency and flock health, and functional fatty acids can improve these two points to different degrees. In many production practices, Calid’s core oil Liduoneng®, can reduce feed-to-meat ratio, increase survival rate, improve fecal quality, and increase average daily weight gain; Teneng® can improve the growth performance of meat birds, enhance immunity, and improve the appearance of chicken meat; and Ankesor®, with its advanced microcapsule encapsulation process, can effectively improve intestinal health and increase the average daily weight gain of meat birds.
Liu Yu, Chief Engineer of Calid Omega-3, delivered a lecture on the topic of “Role and Value of Functional Fatty Acids in Breeding Animal Diets”. Liu Yu pointed out that poor semen quality is an important cause of passive culling in boars, and the fatty acid composition of spermatozoa is a key factor affecting semen quality in boars. The results of several studies show that adding DHA to the feeding diet can improve semen quality. It has been shown that the addition of jiabineng® to boar diets can participate in semen quality regulation by modulating the intestinal inflammatory response, and improve the quality of semen stored at room temperature.
Yang gongpin, BD of innovative products of Calid, shared the topic report of“Nutritional Enrichment Path and Application of High Quality Meat, Eggs and Milk”. He pointed out that DHA is crucial to human body, and the actual intake of DHA is far below the international intake standard, so the lack of DHA can be directly supplemented by consuming DHA-enriched eggs and DHA milk, etc. Therefore, DHA-enriched edible products are especially crucial. In a number of large group tests, Calid’s jiabineng® DHA Eggs and Poultry can significantly increase the DHA content and antioxidant property of eggs; jiabineng® Coated Algal Oil Powder can significantly increase the DHA content of cow’s milk, which is higher than that of commercially available milk.

The book is based on animal nutrition and combines knowledge from feed science, feed processing technology, immunology and molecular biology. Academician Li Defa called it“innovatively put forward the theory of fatty acid balance, and initially embodied the realistic value of fatty acid balance theory.”Academician Hou Shuisheng commented that it “integrates theoretical research and practical application, and has an important role in guiding and promoting the healthy development of animal husbandry.”
In addition, as one of the books in the series of“Contemporary Animal Nutrition and Feed Science Monographs (Second Series)”, this book has been awarded the 2024 National Publication Fund, which has a success rate of only 30%.
